How to Measure Shades
When ordering custom window coverings it is absolutely necessary to give accurate measurements. Your measurements are used first to price the product and then to custom fabricate your blinds &/or shades. As a consumer it is your responsibility to provide accurate measurements. A steel tape measure should always be used when measuring for your custom window shadings.
You will need to decide if the custom window treatment you are ordering will be mounted to the inside or outside of the window frame. Many times this decision will be dependent upon the mounting surface required to mount the blind/shade you are interested in. Bracket mounting depth should always be taken into consideration. Refer to the individual product pages "Measure/Install" tab for mounting requirements. If you still have questions or are unsure of anything listed on this web page please contact customer service. We will be happy to help.
It is important to remember that the factory will take deductions off of all product ordered as an inside mount so the window covering will fit within that space. It is very rare for the factory to make any changes to sizes ordered as an outside mount. The only exception to this is Sheer Shadings. For specific factory deductions please refer to the "Measure/Install" tab for the specific product you are ordering. If you still have questions please feel free to contact customer service. The dimensions of the blind will be from the top of the headrail to the bottom of the bottom rail or slats (where applicable) and from the left to right of the headrail and bottom rail (where applicable) less standard factory deductions.
Width is horizontal (left to right.) Height/Length is vertical (top to bottom.) When order window coverings width is always listed as the first dimension. The dimensions of the blind will be from the top of the headrail to the bottom of the bottom rail or slats (where applicable) and from the left to right of the headrail and bottom rail (where applicable) less standard factory deductions.
To figure out the width of an inside dimension of your window use a steel measuring tape to measure your width "A" first. Measure top, middle and bottom of the window from left to right. Write down all three measurements. You will use the narrowest dimension when ordering your blind/shade. Remember to always round down to the nearest 1/8"
To figure out the height/length of the inside dimension of your window use a steel measuring tape to measure the height/length "B" of the inside of your window frame. Measure the height/length at the left, center and right of the window. Write down all three measurements. You will use the shortest height/length. Remember to always round down to the nearest 1/8"

Outiside mounted product can be mounted to the window frame or the wall. To figure out the dimensions of an outside dimension you must first consider where you want to mount the blind/shade and how much surface area you want to cover. Use a steel measuring tape to measure your width. If you are mounting to the window frame, measure top, middle and bottom of the window frame left to right. Write down all three measurements. You will normally use the widest dimension when ordering your blind/shade. However wood blinds and faux wood mounting brackets mount to the end of the headrail, If the top dimension left to right is more narrow then the center and bottom of the window you will want to order the narrowest width or change to a wall mount. Remember to always round down to the nearest 1/8"
To figure out the height/length of the outside dimension of your window use a steel measuring tape to measure the height/length of the surface you want to cover. Measure the height/length at the left, center and right of the window. Write down all three measurements. Your will use the longest height/length. Remember to always round down to the nearest 1/8"
